NHS Framework Agency
The NHS Framework Agency (NHFA) was a UK government agency established in 2000 to manage framework agreements for the procurement of goods and services across the National Health Service (NHS). Its primary purpose was to negotiate national contracts for commonly used goods and services, such as medical equipment and temporary staffing, to achieve economies of scale and ensure value for money for the NHS.
The NHFA also provided procurement advice and support to NHS organizations and facilitated the development of new procurement strategies and processes. It worked closely with the Department of Health and Social Care and other NHS bodies to ensure that procurement practices were aligned with government policies and objectives.
In 2014, the NHFA merged with NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS), a joint venture between the Department of Health and Social Care and Sopra Steria, to form a new organization called NHS SBS Procurement. This new entity continues to provide procurement support and services to NHS organizations across the UK, with a focus on driving efficiencies and delivering value for money.
